What’s in a Name? { Floral Delivery in Twin Cities }

Sunset Symphony, Orange You Glad, Elysian, Wild Child, ‘Ol Skool, Lime in Love and Tuscan Sunset…know what those are? If you guessed some of our flower arrangements–then you’re absolutely right. This Fall, we just added a whole new collection of floral designs to our website. We did it in the Spring and for Mother’s Day too–and, we will do it again as soon as winter, and the Holidays, get a bit closer. We do this every year–all the time. I mean, I suppose we could just stick to what we have online, and never refresh but, let’s face it, what fun is that? We love being inspired to create with what we have on hand, as flowers become seasonally available. (If you think of flowers like fruit…it makes more sense. For example, as soon as Fall hits–you’re probably excited for apples. As winter wears on, you look for fresh citrus. Once spring and summer roll around, you’re on the look out for berries, and watermelon. Flowers are like that for us, in a way.)

Every time we launch a new line we take a few steps. After we have all of the flowers we need, finding the inspiration, and coming up for the look of each arrangement becomes a team effort. It’s always fun, and even a little bit exciting as we follow the inspiration of the season, while also trying to stay within our market, and within what’s trending in our favorite magazines and on Pinterest and Instagram. There’s a lot of thought, and pride in our creations. After the line is ready, our photographer/blogger/social media girl comes in and photographs each of them for MainFloral.net and elsewhere on the web. After all of this bright, flowery, creative fun…this awkward, dark void happens though–it’s called ‘the naming process’. So, go back to the fruit for a minute. Take a whole bunch of seasonal fruit, put it together in a basket, and name it. Then, move the fruit around, add some more, and name it. Then do it again, and again, and again–and, keep it original, and happy, and unique. And, hundreds of names later…the dark void becomes a real thing. You just stare. * sigh *

The naming process has actually become a favorite challenge of our though. (Or, maybe we’ve just completely lost it.)  Check out some random facts about the names of our products…

-We have over 400, unique, product names on our site. (Yeah. We think some of the names are dumb too.)

-We have a whole line named after famous television moms. (That was last year’s Mother’s Day line. 🙂 )

-Our names have been inspired by lyrics from Michael Jackson, Wilson Pickett, Fallout Boy, Neil Diamond, The Beatles, and even The Brady Bunch.

-We have used scrap booking websites to ‘attempt’ to come up with cutesy, fun, names for our seasonal arrangements. (This never works. We’ll probably try it again in a couple months though.)

-We have used random, online, name generators to help. (Again, this just. doesn’t. work.)

-We have Googled ‘really pretty English words’ in hopes of coming up with something amazing. (This does work, actually. However, three hours, and several dozen Tumblr blogs later…we completely forget what we’re doing in the first place and become experts at using odd words in normal, everyday, conversation. ie: ‘Oh. The petrichor in the air is amazing after this morning’s rain!’ O.o )

-This Fall’s line is pretty much all songs by The Cure. (It seemed not fitting, at all, for a bright, cheery, flower line…but, ‘Just Like Heaven’ was on at the time. So, it happened.)

-We have come up with the ‘perfectest name ever’ more than once. (Only to realize we used it the previous season.)

-We already have a theme picked out for our Winter/Holiday arrangement line. Though, we can’t tell you. (It’s not that amazing or anything. It’s just a miracle that we have an idea BEFORE hand so we are taking NO chances.)

We named this one: Shooting Star. The purple looks kinda like shooting stars. (And, we had pretty much used ever Cure song that wasn’t about death, or dying.)
