Hello! We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂 It’s amazing how you don’t get much time between the time the leftovers go in the fridge, to the time you’re expected to be out there Christmas shopping. We don’t buy into that pressure too much–instead, we will spend the next few weeks scouring local shops for great, and unique, gifts for our family and friends. (We try to use a 60/40 rule. 60% of what we purchase coming from local, small, businesses–40% coming from the bigger box retailers. Every year we try to increase that 60% a bit. 🙂 ) When we shop in the smaller towns, and at the smaller shops, we don’t feel so overwhelmed–things feel slower, friendlier, and less crazy. Anyway, like most of us, no matter where you shop, you are probably looking for some gift ideas. We figured that over the next couple of weeks here, on our blog, we’ll be showing off, and talking about, some of our favorite Christmas gift ideas that come from our own shop. On our FB, and Instagram page, we’ll also be sharing photos of the things we love around here–just a bit more frequently.
Today, we thought we’d show off our favorite jewelry–Firefly Jewelry. We just got some new pieces in to add to our collection. You can stop in to purchase a piece, or you can call us to have it delivered directly to your recipient. (Without, or with, flowers too. 🙂 ) Most pieces are in the 50-75 dollar range (the bracelets are more), and all are handmade in Guatemala. The company is run by four men, and employs 80, indigenous, workers. They work hard to bring employment, training, skills and fair wages to the people who work there. They use Austrian crystal and and Czechoslovakian glass in their work. Each piece sparkles, and shines, as it moves and hits the light; even the dimmest of light makes it sparkle.
Check out a few of our photos here, as well as some of the quick videos below–you can see the sparkle we’re talking about right away. If you have any questions about this jewelry, give us a call! Next week, we’ll share some of our favorite, artisan made gifts.
